Thallus is pale gray or a pale brownish gray with lobes that are lobed and isolated or sometimes in groups but obviously separated. Apothecia rare and develop late, spores simple, 19-24 x 9-12 µm.

A pioneer species on siliceous rocks and stones but distribution is uncertain owing to its recent separation from Trapelia glebulosa sens.lat. Thallus C+ red, K-, KC-, P-.

Previously recorded as part of the Trapelia glebulosa sens.lat. aggregate, which comprises Trapelia glebulosa and Trapelia involuta
