A thick, warted, pale whitish-grey or grey thallus covered with apothecial initials that lack a hypothallus. Apothecia slightly darker brown than those of L. hybocarpa with thick, over-arching sinuous margins. Epithecium is coarsely granular and the hymenium has tiny light brown crystals between the paraphyses. Spores are simple, 13-17 x 7.5-9 µm. Microscope photographs below (polarised light). Occurs on exposed, well-lit deciduous trees with acidic bark
