Growth type crustose. N.B. requires microscopical examination under polarised light (POL) for certain identification.

The whitish-grey thallus is smooth, slightly warted or granulose with scattered or aggregated pale pinkish-brown, slightly pruinose apothecia. There are large crystals in the thalline margin and coarse brown granules extend below epithcium into upper part of hymenium below tops of the asci (dissolving in K). Micro photograph below. Widespread on deciduous trees but previously overlooked and recorded as Lecanora chlarotera sens. lat.
