Species: Lichenodiplis lecanoricola

Photos: Killarney NP, Co. Kerry, SW Ireland.
New to Britain and Ireland, ID Kendra Driscoll, confirmed by Paul Diederich

Single dark brown or black pycnidia are immersed or often erumpent in the host thallus or apothecia. Conidiophores usually absent but sometimes present. Conidia simple, pale brown, broadly ellipsoid with truncate bases, 4-4.5 x 2-2.5(-3) µm. Micrographs below.

Occurs on corticolous Lecanora species but only recently described and probably overlooked or confused with L. lecanorae.

Similar: Lichenodiplis lecanorae is also found on Lecanora, but the conidia are 1-septate
