Species: Physcia adscendens Photos: On rocks and concrete post. Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Small pale-grey thallus, lobes with pale pseudocyphellae and long marginal, black cilia. Lobe-tips raised, becoming hood-shaped, inflating and bursting to reveal creamy-yellowish soredia. When fertile the black apothecia are short-stalked and pruinose. The lichenicolous fungi Syzygospora physciacearum and Laetisaria lichenicola can be found on Physcia species. Common throughout Ireland on nutrient-rich rocks, tombstones and cement. Also occurs on trees. Cortex: K+ yellow. Medulla: K- Similar: Physcia tenella and Physcia dubia |
