Species: Physcia tenella Photos: On ornamental Sorbus trunk. Macroom, Cork, SW Ireland. Small thallus with +/- erect, long, whitish-grey lobes covered with small pseudocyphellae, margins with long, whitish cilia. Lobe ends split revealing lip-shaped, cream coloured soralia. Dark apothecia. The lichenicolous fungi Syzygospora physciacearum and Laetisaria lichenicola can be found on Physcia species. A pioneer species usually occuring on nutrient-rich branches and twigs, occasional on rock. Thallus: K+ yellow. Medulla: K- Similar: Physcia adscendens and Physcia leptalea |
