Thallus inapparent but sometimes delimited by thin brown line. Non-lichenised but occasional protococcoid or trentepohlioid cells are sometimes present. Narrow apothecia are often curved or flexuose, sometimes branched, with slightly raised edges and a narrow disc. Spores 1-septate, 15-17(-18) x 5-7 µm. Pycnidia unknown. Microscope photograph below. Epithecium pale brown or olive.

A rare species found on smooth bark in west and south-west Ireland, western Scotland and recently in north-west Wales

Similar: Naevia punctiformis (Arthonia), 3-septate spores, wider apothecia. Melaspilea atroides, smaller dark brown spores
