Species: Cladonia grayi sens lat

Primary thallus squamulose, secondary thallus fruticose
Photos: In acid soil among rocks. Ballingeary, Cork, SW Ireland.

Chemical results: K-, C-, KC-, P +/- red. Medulla UV + blue

One of a number of chemotypes within the Cladonia chlorophaea aggregate Basal squamules inconspicuous and soon disappear. Podetia usually unbranched and with brownish tinge, granulose-corticate but usually without large soredia. Found in more acidic habits than C. chlorophaea s.str.

The aggregate includes Cladonia asahinae, C, cryptochlorophaea, C. grayi, C, merochlorophaea and C. novochlorophaea but excludes Cladonia chlorophaea s. str.
