Species: Cladonia chlorophaea sens lat

Primary thallus squamulose, secondary thallus fruticose.

Small erect grey-green squamules with white under-surface. Podetia expands smoothly to wide cup, sometimes with marginal projections. Podetia and cups with small, granular soredia.

Common on rotting stumps, soil, peat, mossy banks. The chemical reactions are unreliable but usually K-, P+ red, UV-

Cladonia chlorophaea sens lat is a morphocomplex of species with brown apothecia and coarse soredia or granules: C. asahinae, C. chlorophaea, C. cryptochlorophaea, C. grayi, C. merochlorophaea and C. novochlorophaea
