Alloarthopyrenia italica (Arthopyrenia cinereopruinosa) Photos: On Whitebeam. Barnaviddane, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Identified by John Douglass Thallus immersed or slightly bleaching the bark with small circular or ellipsoid perithecia often covered by thin layer of bark cells. Spores 1-septate, 15-22 x 5-8 µm, constricted at the septum with both cells medially constricted and with a distinct perispore. Microscope photographs below. Chemical results negative Found on smooth bark, especially of young Hazel and Ash Similar: Arthopyrenia analepta has larger perithecia |
