Order: Lecanorales Family: Catillariaceae
Species: Catillaria lenticularis Photos: Coachford old cemetery, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Identification confirmed by John Douglass Thin or immersed whitish, beige or pale brown thallus. Numerous grouped or scattered apothecia, reddish to dark brown, often +/- immersed. Spores are 1-septate, 7-10(-12) × (2-)2.5-3.5(-4) µm. Paraphyses with dark swollen tips. Photobiont is Dictyochloropsis. Micrographs below. Chemical results negative Common on limestone, calcareous rocks and building materials. Similar: Catillaria chalybeia is found on siliceous rocks |
