Species: Lecanora poliophaea Photos: On estuary rocks. Co.Waterford, Ireland. Chemical reactions negative. UV+ yellow (young apothecia) The bluish-grey, granular-aureolate thallus with nodules and coarse isidia is usually surrounded by a zoned, fimbriate prothallus. Apothecia are immersed becoming sessile, discs orange-brown with crenulate margins. Microscope photograph below. Found on nutrient-enriched coastal rocks, usually lower down on the shore than L. praepostera (which is K+ yellow > red) |
