Erumpent flat or slightly domed apothecia are initially covered with a greenish pruina but become dark brown to blackish when mature. Asci are 8-spored, spores brown, 1-septate, 15-17 x 6-8 µm. The black pycnidia are often absent, the conidia 9.6-12.8 × 5.6-7.2 µm. Microscope photographs below.

Occasional on thalli of Sticta species in oceanic woodlands in western Britain and Ireland. Most frequently recorded from Sticta ciliata and S. fuliginosa but also on S. limbata and S. sylvatica
