Species: Porina coralloidea Photos: Glengarriff woods, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Identified by Andy Acton Smooth dark greyish thallus, often with pink, purple or brownish tinge. Crowded, usually simple, cylindrical isidia. Immature ididia with paler, pointed tips. Scattered, half-immersed, black perithecia, the spores 9-11 septate. Infrequent, an 'old forest' indicator species usually found on the bark of mature to very old Oak. Also recorded from Ash and Beech. Similar: Jamesiella anastomosans has pale-grey, isidia-like structures containing a trebouxioid photobiont. |
