Order: Lecanorales Family: Micareaceae
Species: Micarea lignaria var. lignaria Photos: Ballingeary, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Thallus of whitish, pale grey or grey-green granules, usually with abundant globose blackish apothecia. Asci 8-spored, the spores hyaline, 3-7 septate, 16-36 x 4-6 µm. Pycnidia are +/- immersed. Micrographs below. Common throughout Ireland on acidic substrates. Often found on moss or plant debris, also on peat, timber, shaded rocks and walls. Thallus: K-, C-, KC-, P+ red. Apothecial section C- Similar: Micarea lignaria var. endoleuca. C+ yellow-orange, P- |
