Species: Trapelia placodioides Photos: On rocks. Gougane Barra, Cork, SW Ireland. Identified by John Douglass Thallus creamy to pinkish-white, forming small patches or a continuous areolate crust. Outer margins of areoles +/- placodioid in appearance. Numerous yellowish-white or pale green soralia but apothecia are very rare. Common on siliceous rocks, walls, mine-spoil heaps, especially in upland areas. K-, C+ red, KC-, P-, UV+ white. Similar: Trapelia coarctata and T. glebulosa. Soralia absent. |
