Widespread in upland areas, often over moss on siliceous rocks and acid-barked trees. Thallus K-, C+ red, KC+ orange-red, P-, UV- Similar: O. tartarea. Abundant apothecia. Thallus K+ pale yellow Pertusaria hemisphaerica. Bluish soredia, C+ carmine-red
