Photos: Over moss on upland rock. Ballingeary, Cork, SW Ireland Variable. Thallus whitish to pale yellow-grey, usually thick, granular-warted with yellowish soredia scattered or forming a continuous crust. Apothecia more frequent on mature specimens, disc pinkish to orange-brown. Spores simple, 30-45 × 13-22 µm. When occurring on trees the thallus is thinner. Widespread in upland areas, often over moss on siliceous rocks and acid-barked trees. Thallus K-, C+ red, KC+ orange-red, P-, UV- Similar: O. tartarea. Abundant apothecia. Thallus K+ pale yellow Pertusaria hemisphaerica. Bluish soredia, C+ carmine-red |
