Species: Toniniopsis aromatica (Toninia aromatica) Photos: In limestone crack. Black Head, the Burren, W Ireland. Thallus greyish, tinged brown or green. Rounded warted squamules with pale spots or ridges near centre. Numerous black compressed apothecia, often faintly pruinose. Asci 8-spored, spores 3-septate, 12-23 x 3-6 µm. Paraphyses have swollen, pigmented apical cells. Microscope photos below. Fairly common throughout Ireland on soft calcareous rocks and lime mortar. Epithecium green, K-. Similar: T. sedifolia. Thallus white or glaucous-pruinose. Epithecium greyish, K+ violet. Spores 1-septate. |
