Primary thallus squamulose, secondary thallus fruticose.

Margins of basal squamules often slightly sorediate. Podetia are
+/- corticate at base, patchily floury-sorediate above. Small cups, abruptly widening from base. Very similar to C. coniocraea.

Found on tree stumps and peaty soils and often occurs with Cladonia coniocraea. K-, P+ red, UV-
