Species: Xylographa trunciseda Q Photos: On hard wood, Kilcolman, Co. Limerick, Ireland. Identification uncertain Elongated pale to dark brown discs following the grain of the wood, roundish to narrowly elipsoid and remaining brown when mature. Asci 8-spored, spores simple, 9-12.5x 4.5-6 µm. Micrograph below. Chemistry negative Found on worked timber, wooden fencing and dead trees. Most frequent on soft woods. Rarely recorded but possibly overlooked Similar: Xylographa parallela. Virtually identical but discs initially brown becoming black when mature. |
