Species: Punctelia jeckeri (Punctelia ulophylla) Photos: Kilcolman, Co. Limerick, Ireland. The lobes are pale greenish-grey, becoming brownish-grey at tips with +/- pruinose margins, soralia occurring mainly along edges of lobes. Pseudocyphellae are sparse or absent and the lower surface is creamy white to pale brown with dense, unbranched or clumped rhizines (often with slightly paler tips) not extending to the margins. Apothecia are unknown, pycnidia rare. Medulla and soredia C+ carmine-red, KC+ red, UV- Mainly found on shaded, horizontal branches but not recorded on rocks. Often found with Punctelia subrudecta. Similar: Punctelia borrei. Under surface black towards centre. Punctelia reddenda. Dark under surface. Medulla C-. |
