Species: Punctelia subrudecta Photos: On tree-trunks. Macroom and Ballineen, Cork, SW Ireland Orbicular greenish-grey thallus. Lobes with light-brown or whitish under surface, darker-brown at centre. Farinose soredia rising from white, punctiform pseudocyphellae. Apothecia very rare, concave red-brown discs with smooth or slightly sorediate margins. Common on trees throughout Ireland, also on siliceous rocks. Medulla and soredia: KC+ red, C+ carmine-red, UV- Similar: Punctelia borrei. Under surface black towards centre. Punctelia reddenda. Dark under surface, Medulla C- P. jeckeri (P. ulophylla), Undersurface +/- tan. Lobe tips are brownish-grey, pruinose. Medulla C+ red |
