Family: Thelotremataceae
Species: Thelotrema lueckingii Photos: Glengarriff Woods, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Very similar to Thelotrema lepadinum but the thallii have K+ red yellow pigmentation in the medulla and within the warts, darkening to a yellow-orangish colour when exposed. (Yellow pigmentation best seen in cross-section or in empty warts). The medulla is white to yellowish with large crystals, K+ brownish-red (but with a slower reaction than the cortex). Cortex K+ brownish-red. Only recently separated from Thelotrema lepadinum but thought to be probably widespread in old, humid, woodlands in western areas. Frequently found with T. lepadinum but more restricted in range |
