Scattered dark red-brown to black apothecia, the thick, incurved rims with curved, refractive excipular hairs. Asci are 8-spored, spores hyaline, simple, (6-)7-9 x (2-)2.5-3.5 µm, rounded at apices and often with numerous guttules. Micrographs below.

Usually occurs on the thallus and apothecia of Lecanora chlarotera and Lecanopa hybocarpa, but has also been recorded on Lecanora carpinea and Lecanora conizaeoides. The apothecia are often concentrated near the margins of the host thallus.
