Species: Lecania sylvestris Photos: Coachford old cemetery, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Identified by John Douglass The thallus is usually immersed but occasionally thin and inconspicuous or as a few scattered aureoles. The apothecia are orange to dark brown, transulent and with a darker excipular zone that is visible when wet. Microscope photograph below. Found on calcareous pebbles and shaded limestone, often following small cracks or crevices. Similar: Lecania hutchinsiae is found on siliceous rock |
