Species: Verrucaria latebrosa (Verrucaria aethiobola) Photos: Upland stream, Ballingeary, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Pale greyish-brown to dark brown lightly cracked thallus with small projecting perithecia, apex often slightly flattened. Asci 8-spored, spores (23-)25-28(-29.5) x (8-)10.5-13(-14) µm. Very variable and thallii on drier or more exposed rock can be thinner and with few cracks. Found on unshaded or shaded siliceous rocks in freshwater rivers, streams and lakes. |
