Thin or roughly granular grey thallus, often tinged greenish. Delimited soralia become confluent, bluish-green or yellow-green, grey-green when rubbed. Soralia reduced when apothecia present.

Common on acidic walls and rocks. Also found on slightly base-rich rocks and occasionally on weathered or dusty wood and tree bases.
