Species: Xanthoria ectaneoides / Xanthoria aureola
Photos: On coastal rocks. Cork, SW Ireland.
Very similar to X. parietina but the lobes are narrower, strap-like, adpressed and not or only slightly overlapping. Ellipsoid conidia. Apothecia are occasional, usually absent.
Coastal in 'orange' and 'grey' zones, also found on old buildings near coast. Rare on exposed upland calcareous rocks.
K+ crimson / purple.
N.B. Name recently changed to X. aureola but as this name was previously used for the species now known as X. calcicola confusion can arise!
