Class: Lecanoromycetes Incertae sedis
Species: Botryolepraria lesdainii Photos: Among moss on shady wall. Gougane Barra and Bantry, Cork, SW Ireland. Identified by John Douglass Diffuse, spongy, apple-green or blue-green thallus without isidia or soredia. Abundant free hyphae forming network with frequent septa, clusters of photobiont cells at ends of hyphal branches. Chemical reactions negative. Widespread throughout Ireland on calcareous rocks and walls, limestone and mortar. Requires shade and protection from direct rainfall. |
