Species: Endocarpon adscendens Photos: Among moss on rock. Dromore NNR, the Burren, Ireland. Identification confirmed by Brian Coppins Thallus of small overlapping squamules, greenish when wet, drying fawn to grey-brown. Black lower surface with pale margin. Margins entire or crenulate, not pruinose. 1-2 conspicuous brown-black perithecia per squamule, ostioles depressed. Pycnidia frequent. On periodically inundated rocks beside streams and loughs, often among mosses. Rare, only recorded in Ireland from north Kerry, Connemara and the Burren. Chemical reactions negative. |
