Species: Scytinium lichenoides (Leptogium lichenoides) Photos: On hazel. The Burren, W Ireland. Dark brown or grey-brown thallus, dense lobes with numerous cylindrical digitate projections on margins. Lower surface strongly ridged. Rarely fertile, apothecia red-brown with isidiate margins, the spores 5-9-septate, 33-45 x 12-15 µm. Occurs among moss on trees, rocks and damp soil in old woodland. Chemical reactions negative Similar: Leptogium gelatinosum occurs on more calcareous substrates and L. pulvinatum has flattened marginal projections. |
