Species: Parmeliella testacea Photos: On hazel. The Burren, W Ireland. BLS Burren meeting 2009 Grey-brown or reddish-brown squamules, 2-3mm wide with radiating lobes. Black hypothallus visible between squamules, not forming continuous band round thallus margin. Marginal globose isidia form grey granular crust. Apothecia rare. Smells of antiseptic if crushed when wet. Found among moss on broadleaved trees and rocks in shaded, damp woodland in W and SW Ireland. Chemical reactions negative. Similar: P. triptophylla. Continuous hypothallus, squamules 1mm. |
