Species: Ramalina calicaris Photos: The Gearagh, Co. Cork and Killarney, Co. Kerry, SW Ireland Shiny grey-green thallus, narrow divided branches with up-turned edges forming a single deep channel. Apothecia at or near the branch tips. Thallus usually pendant, to approx 8cm. Asci 8-spored, most spores straight, colourless, 1-septate, 10-16 x 5-7 µm. Microscope photographs below. Occurs on well-lit to lightly shaded basic-barked trees, e.g Willow. Chemical reactions negative. Could sometimes be confused with Ramalina fastigiata but that has mainly kidney-shaped spores |
