Species: Ramalina calicaris Photos: On Salix branch. The Gearagh, Cork, SW Ireland. Shiny grey-green thallus, narrow divided branches with up-turned edges forming a single deep channel. Apothecia at or near the branch tips. Thallus usually pendant, to approx 8cm. Asci 8-spored, spores colourless, 1-septate, 10-16 x 5-7 µm and straight. Occurs on well-lit to lightly shaded basic-barked trees, e.g Willow. Chemical reactions negative. Could sometimes be confused with Ramalina fastigiata but that has kidney-shaped spores |
