Species: Caloplaca ceracea Growth type crustose.Photos: On coastal rocks. Ballyrisode and Dunmanus Bay, Cork, SW Ireland. Granular or areolate pale grey thallus. Apothecia orangish to rusty brown, becoming convex, greener when wet. Margins matt when dry. Disc and paler margins are often pruinose. Disc: K+ crimson / purple. Usually coastal on shaded siliceous rocks. Rarely found inland. Similar: C. crenularia. Apothecia remain orange when wet. |
