Coarsely granular greenish-grey thallus developing scaly white or pinkish schizidia. Sometimes sorediate. Short-stalked apothecia with globular pale pinkish hymenium.
K+ yellow turning orange, C-, KC+ orange, P+ orange, UV+ orange

Occurs on peaty soils and disturbed tracks on damp heaths.
