Species: Herteliana gagei Photos: On rock. Killarney NP, Co. Kerry, SW Ireland. Identified by John Douglass The thick, smooth, greenish-white to pale blue thallus forms continuous, wide-spreading patches. Black prothallus, +/- distinct. Apothecia red-brown, convex, but often browsed by snails before maturity. Usually numerous young apothecia and pycnidia present. K+ yellow, C-, KC+ yellow, P- Occurs on damp, siliceous rocks in sheltered, mainly oceanic, woodlands. Similar: Lecidea phaeops. P+ yellow with immersed apothecia |
