Order: Teloschistales
Family: Teloschistaceae
Species: Xanthoria aureola (X. ectaneoides) Photos: On coastal rocks. Cork, SW Ireland. Very similar to Xanthoria parietina but the lobes are narrower, strap-like, adpressed and not or only slightly overlapping. Apothecia are occasional, usually absent. Ellipsoid conidia. Coastal in 'orange' and 'grey' zones, also found on old buildings near coast. Rare on exposed upland calcareous rocks. K+ crimson / purple. N.B. Name recently changed to X. aureola but this name was previously used for the species now known as X. calcicola so confusion can arise! |
