Species: Circinaria caesiocinerea (Aspicilia caesiocinerea) Photos: On rock. Gougane Barra, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Identified by John Douglass Thallus usually thick, warted, cracked or areolate, light grey, often with bluish tinge. Prothallus grey when present. Apothecia have black discs with persistent, thin, entire margins. The asci are (4-)6-8-spored and the spores very variable in size and often poorly developed, 14-30 × 7-16 µm. Cortex and medulla: K-, P- Found on nutrient-rich siliceous rocks, often near water. Inland and coastal distribution. |
