Species: Circinaria caesiocinerea (Aspicilia caesiocinerea) Photos: On rock. Gougane Barra, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Thallus usually thick, warted, cracked or areolate, light grey, often with bluish tinge. Prothallus grey when present. Apothecia have black discs with persistent, thin, entire margins. Asci (4-)6-8 spored and the spores are very variable in size and often poorly developed, 14-30 × 7-16 µm. Cortex and medulla: K-, P- Found on nutrient-rich siliceous rocks, often near water. Inland and coastal distribution and the commonest K- Aspicilia-like species on siliceous rocks |
