Species: Pertusaria coccodes Photos: On Rowan. Macroom, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Greenish or brownish-grey thallus often with pale brown or whitish prothallus. Thallus +/- covered by conspicuous coarse, smooth, globose or ovoid-elongate isidia, often brown-tipped. Apothecia are very rare, with punctiform discs in smooth globular warts. Usually on +/- well-lit, nutrient-rich bark of deciduous trees, occasional on smooth, siliceous rocks overhung by trees. Thallus K+ yellow turning red, C-, KC-, P+ orange, UV- Similar: Pertusaria pseudocorallina. Occurs on rocks. |
