Species: Cladonia subcervicornis

Primary thallus squamulose, secondary thallus fruticose.
Photos: On rocks on acidic heath. Ballingeary, Cork, SW Ireland.

Often found sterile, forming dense clumps of bluntly incised grey-green squamules, the white lower surface blackened at the base. The upper surface turns apple-green when wet. When present the podetia have abruptly widening cups and dark brown apothecia.

Can be very common on coastal and upland acid soils and on siliceous rocks. K+ yellow, P+ red, UV-

Similar: Cladonia cervicornis is K- with smaller squamules, not blackened at base. Cladonia strepsilis, C+ fleeting bright-green, Pd+ yellow, UV+ whitish
