Growth type foliose.

Adpressed blue-grey to greenish-grey thallus with rounded, slightly notched lobes, the lobe surface with faint white pruina and small, punctiform pseudocyphellae that become +/- sorediate. Lower surface black with simple rhizines, absent near margins. Apothecia with red-brown discs are occasional, the margins +/- sorediate.

Occurs on well-lit nutrient-rich trees and mossy rocks. Cortex: K-, C+ yellow. Medulla and soralia: C+ pinkish-red, P-

Similar: Punctelia reddenda. Black under surface, medulla C-. Punctelia subrudecta. Pale under surface, Medulla C+ red
