Pycnothelia papillaria

Primary thallus crustose, followed by hollow podetia.

Primary thallus of persistent whitish-grey crustose granules. Hollow, cylindrical, simple or branched podetia tipped with dark pycnidia. The short-stalked, dark reddish-brown apothecia are rare.

Found in western Ireland on acidic peat or on shallow humus over rocks on wet heaths and moorland. Requires light and avoids shaded or permanently wet areas. K+ yellow, UV+ blue-white
