Species: Usnea subfloridana Photos: On Larch branch. Gougane Barra, Cork, SW Ireland. Identification of fertile specimen by Mike Simms Base blackened, branches neither constricted, warty or annulated (with pale rings). Erect and bushy, becoming sub-pendulous. Round patches of soredia and insidia. Infrequently fertile, apothecia are smaller than those of Usnea florida. Widespread on trees (often on twigs), fences and rocks. Medulla K+ yellow or orange, P+ yellow to orange-red instantly. Similar: Usnea wasmuthii |
