Orbicular whitish-grey thallus, the short, incised lobes with raised tips. The marginal lobes have fine, terminal soredia. Apothecia are rare, the margins +/- sorediate. The lower surface is paler than that of H. afrorevoluta, rhizines sparse, not extending to margins.

Found on nutrient-rich trees and rocks, but less frequent than H. afrorevoluta. Cortex K+ yellow, medulla K-, C+ red, KC+ red, P-, UV- or dull orange

Similar: H. britannica. Lobes narrower, dark subterminal soredia.
