Usnea fragilescens

Species: Usnea fragilescens var. mollis

Growth type fruticose.
Photos: On fallen Oak branch. Glengarrif woods, Cork, SW Ireland.

Base blackened, branchlets constricted due to very lax medulla. Thallus soft, flexible when dry. Large, yellowish-green, more/less pendulous with combed appearance. Groups of small pointed isidia.

Infrequent, occurs in the canopy of damp, deciduous woodland.
Medulla: K+ orange, P+ red
