Species: Fuscidea cyathoides Growth type crustose.Photos: On shaded rocks. Ballingeary area, Cork, Ireland. Identified by Mike Simms and John Douglass Very variable, warm-brown or greyish, greenish-white in shade, smooth or rough, cracked or areolate. Surrounded by black prothallus which is often visible between the areoles. Sessile apothecia, convex dark-brown or black discs with paler margins. K+ dirty-yellow, P+ red, UV- Widespread throughout Ireland on siliceous upland rocks. Similar: Fuscidea kochiana and Fuscidea lygaea |
