Order: Agyriales Family: Trapeliaceae
Species: Placynthiella icmalea Photos: On rotting fence, Nadd Bog, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Identification confirmed by John Douglass Thallus of very small brown to greyish-brown, isidiate or minutely coralloid granules. Often sterile but when present apothecia are scattered, the discs brown with persistent margins. Spores are simple, 8-12 x 4-5 µm. Chemical results: C+ red, KC+ red (best seen under microscope) Common on peaty soils, dead wood, tree stumps and damp fence posts |
