Species: Peltigera horizontalis Photos: Killarney National Park, Co. Kerry, SW Ireland. Identified by John Douglass Can form large patches. Lobes +/- glossy, blue-grey, often tinged brown. Lower surface white becoming darker towards centre. Conspicuous dark brown-black veins with white interstices. Rope-like dark rhizines. Apothecia red-brown, rounded, sometimes broader than long, held +/- horizontally on lobes. 'Old woodland' indicator species found on mossy tree trunks and rocks, rotting logs and stumps. Chemical reactions negative. |
