Thin to cracked-areolate, white or greyish thallus with paler or +/- indistinct prothallus. Small, puntiform white soralia are +/- evenly scattered over surface of thallus. Isidia rare, apothecia absent.

Occurs on acidic upland rocks and walls, scattered distribution throughout Ireland.
K +/- brownish yellow/red, C-, KC+ yellow-red, P+ rust-red, UV-

Similar: P. lactea. Sunny, upland or coastal, acid or +/- calcareous rocks. K-, C+ carmine-red, KC+ red, P-, UV +/- glaucous
