Species: Leptogium cochleatum Photos: On hazel. Cathair Chomáin, the Burren, W Ireland. BLS Burren meeting 2009 Large greyish-green thallus with wavy, convoluted, fine-ridged lobes. Sessile red-brown apothecia are usually present but isidia are absent. The spores are muriform, 20-35 x 12-16 µm. Occurs mainly on trunks of Ash and Hazel in damp, shady woodland, also found on mossy rocks. Rare, most Irish records are from the Burren, Co. Clare. Chemical reactions negative. |
